Henry Kent papers, 1833-1887.

A collection of correspondence sent to Henry Kent of Suffield, Connecticut. Kent was a land speculator and tobacco wholesaler. Most of the correspondence concerns investigations of Kent's current investments or potential speculations in the American West, from Indiana to California. The reports, estimates, and descriptions involve speculations on gold, silver, coal, real estate, ranch and timber lands, and the early development of the "D. Myers Double Acting Safety Brake" for railroad cars. Kent's main correspondents were Andrew Miller and William Miller of La Porte, Indiana.
